Food and Drink

 

The places below are all in Lujiazui area. If you do not dare to go through that skywalk you can come here first and order a cup of wine to embolden yourself. Those places are also fantastic for the environment and food.

Jade on 36

Located on the 36th floor of Pudong Shangri-La, Jade on 36 offers a menu of tasteful European cuisine served in a casual environment with gorgeous views of the Bund. They have a Sunday brunch whereby diners choose unlimited main courses by walking into the kitchen and ordering, along with free-flow drinks.

Grandma's home

Grandma’s Home is a powerhouse chain restaurant with more than 80 restaurants throughout China, serving typical Shanghainese fare. This popular venue has queues of locals and expats alike during rush hours; get the braised pork belly, roasted eggplant and well-seasoned stewed bullfrog.

Käfer by the Binjiang One

This German import sits in a mansion on the eastern banks of the Huangpu and serves up continental fare with an emphasis on dishes from its home country. The family-friendly venue has a garden patio, an underground wine cellar and, more impressively, an ice bar stocked with 150 vodkas.

hoF Bar & Brasserie

Come to this wine bar and restaurant with a stunning view of the Oriental Pearl Tower. This is an extension of hoF, a popular chocolaterie in town. Expect simple but quality food and a wine list with over 80 options. Try the salmon rillettes and the sumptuous chocolate mousse.

Located in the Four Seasons Hotel Pudong, Shang-Xi serves a variety of Shanghainese and Cantonese dishes. Expect to see beautiful presentations and precision-crafted dishes like their thinly-sliced, modern take on hongshaorou or the xiaolongbao. The concept is built around private dining experiences.

Perched at a staggering 58 floors up in Pudong’s Ritz-Carlton hotel, Flair offers up some of the best views in the city, with the Pearl Tower and other futuristic buildings practically at eye level. On cool (or hazy) nights, there’s also a rustic fireplace to keep guests cozy at the wine bar, as well as a sushi counter. The prices may be sky-high, but guests will definitely be wowed on any clear night.

Morton's Sky Bar

Morton’s The Steakhouse, located on the fourth floor of the IFC mall in Lujiazui, opens their Sky Bar terrace one floor up for the spring and summer seasons, surrounded on all sides by breathtaking views of Pudong’s skyscrapers. Their Sky Bar Menu includes a wide selection of famous summery cocktails, with drink promotions from 6 to 10pm Thursdays through Saturdays.

The Music Room

Standing proud on the 92rd floor of the Shanghai World Financial Center (aka The Bottle Opener), The Music Room at Park Hyatt Shanghai is the highest bar in the city and second highest in the world. Head to the elegant space for live jazz and cocktails. Pro tip: The venue occasionally throws a dance party called On Top; check City Weekend’s event listings to find out when.

The Exchange

The Exchange serves craft beer at fluctuating prices like the stock market - while it’s not exactly an original concept, it’s certainly a first for Shanghai. Situated in the basement of the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel, the antique-looking bar serves craft beer and finance-themed cocktails alongside a menu of Western and Asian bar bites.

Paulaner Brauhaus

Paulaner Brauhaus serves all things German, though they’re best known for their beer. Chow down on robust portions of Bavarian meat, potatoes and kraut, and top your meal off with an apple strudel and a stein of in-house Paulaner brew. After dinner, walk around the water to soak in beautiful views of the Bund at night.

When: Sun-Thu 5-8pm
Newly opened Hop Project is home to a great selection of beers, along with the second location of Shanghai’s ever beloved Co. Cheese Melt Bar sandwiches. From Sundays through Thursdays, Hop Project’s Happy Hour lasts from 5pm to 8pm and includes RMB10 off of bottled and draft beers.

El Luchador



When: Mon-Fri 4-7pm
Yongkang’s most popular and hip Mexican spot has a wide selection of Mexican favorites, including burritos, churros, tacos, fajitas, and more. And from 4-7pm on weekdays, El Luchador even offers discounted frozen margaritas for only RMB40.

The Sailors Fish and Chips


When: Mon-Fri 11am-8pm
Known for their freshly battered fish & chips, The Sailors is a Yongkang Lu hotspot for mealtime musings. Most popular for their fried seafood, The Sailors is nonetheless no stranger to cheap deals on alcohol. On weekdays before 8pm, head to Sailors to grab an Asahi or house wine for RMB20 or a sparkling wine for RMB35. And who knows, maybe you can make room for some fish and chips as well in your intermittent drinking schedule.

Located in the heart of Yongkang Lu, this lounge, restaurant and wine shop selects a few quality wines to serve by the glass. On weekdays and weekends alike, Just Grapes offers RMB20 house wines and RMB50 for two draft beers between the hours of 3 to 7 pm.

Le Cafe des Stagiaires


When: Mon-Fri 4-8pm
This charming French cafe is the perfect place to cozy up with friends after a tiring day at work. Le Cafe des Stagiaires offers popular sandwiches, pizzas, and even baked goods. On weekdays from 4pm to 8pm, Le Cafe de Stagiaires has RMB10 discounts on cocktails, and RMB15-30 deals on select beers and wines.

As suggested by their name, Sliders is a bar and restaurant combined, serving up a mean selection of over 10 types of sliders. Their happy hour deal actually lasts for “all day, everyday”; during these hours of “all”, enjoy a house wine for RMB20, a Carlsberg pint for RMB25, and a mojito for RMB30. Special perks if you’re there on a Wednesday night, as house wine and shots are then RMB15 each.

This happening bar on Yongkang is home to a 35-liter daquiri machine and some yummy pulled pork sandwiches, among other things. Every day until 8pm, The Rooster sells Heineken draft, mixed drinks, and wine each priced at RMB25.

A reliable spot for affordable drinks and quick bites, Casa Cafe serves comfort food in the form of pizza’s, fries, and beyond. Every day from 2-8pm Casa Bar offers RMB40-45 beers and RMB50 for two house wines.

Angry Fish

A knock off of Sailors Fish & Chips, Angry Fish has a similar menu of fried seafood goods and alcoholic drinks alike. Lasting daily until 10pm, Angry Fish’s perpetual happy hour means that all 500ml beers are sold at the price of their 300ml counterpart, making drinks RMB10-25 cheaper.
