This Dragon Boat Festival, I guided my new-comer Canadian Colleague stroll around Hongkou District. A general timetable for reference.

10:00 AM
We met at Hailun Station (Line 4& Line 10), and started to walk to the Old Milfun (10 minutes)
10:30 - 11:30 AM
1933 Old Millfun is a hidden gem in Shanghai. The architecture of the buildings is impeccable and the best part about this place is that it isn’t crowded with tourists but has all the checks of a tourist worthy place. A simple 10-minute walk from Hailun Station will take you to this multi floored former slaughter house. Today it is a space with contemporary offices and shops for locals and tourist to visit. The walk to the Millfun is also nice and peaceful unlike the busy streets of Shanghai.
12:00- 13:00 PM
Right outside the Millfun you’ll find many cafes and teahouses inspired by western styles and traditional Chinese styles. My personal favorite is the hidden Friends T.V show inspired café. Not many locals know about this café so it is never really crowded, which is really nice to just enjoy a cup of coffee with friend. It never fails to impress. The imitation of the popular café in the show called Central Perk is almost identical. It truly makes being in the area a top personal recommendation of mine.
13:00-14:00 PM
For people who are old school and and still look forward to sending and receiving snail mail, there’s a secret mail box in Shanghai that stamps your letters or postcards with a heart shaped stamp. This mail box looks like an ordinary looking mail box but its located on a street called Tian'ai Road. This is something unique for anyone who wants to send out something special to their loved ones.
14:00 - 15:00 PM
Walking along North Sichuan Road, we arrived at Duolun Road a historic celebrity road. Former residences, scripts and paintings, tea houses are on the road and has become a popular place with locals and tourist
15:00 - 16:00 PM
Luxun Park is an important culture memorial park and the first sports park in China. The name comes from the famous writer and thinker Luxun, whose memorial hall and tomb lie in the park.
16:30-20:00 PM
Hongkou Plaza is just nearby Luxun park. Famous brands and various restaurants can be found there.
