7 Things You Notice When You Arrive in China



 The grey sky, crowded streets, new languages. These are some things that you should immediately notice when you arrive in China. But have you looked around to see what else is different? Some examples are like taxis and people.

1. Friends hold hands
   Unlike Western societies where people only hold hands when they are in a romantic relationship, in China you will often see many people holding hands. Especially younger girls in groups. They may not be in a romantic relationship and are just good friends. But they express their friendship by holding hands and sticking close together.

2. People sit in the front seats of taxis
 In many taxis driving by you can see that the passenger seat is always occupied. This is because people in China sit in the passenger seat, next to the driver. They driver also has a clear plastic protection that wraps around their seat. Unlike western culture, the back seat is almost always empty.

3. There are less pregnant women
 
 Seeing pregnant people in China is more rare than in the United States. This could because of the former One Child policy, but when we first saw a pregnant women we were surprised. You do tend to occasionally see a future mother but its much more rare than you’d think

4. People cover their skin from the sun
 
 Something you’ll definitely notice is that even in the 40 degrees weather you’ll see people all covered up with separate sleeves, crazy get-ups or other kind of articles of clothing that people use to cover their skin from the sun. In China it is best to be light and pale because it’s considered beautiful, whereas in the west people spend thousands of dollars to look tan.

5. Men carry women’s purses
 Men carrying the purses and bags of their significant others is really common. At the mall in a women’s store you’ll definitely see aman sitting or standing waiting for their significant others purse while they browse.

6. QR codes are actually helpful
 
 QR codes are the best things in China. From advertisements to plane tickets to paying for a meal or even a piece of gum at 7-11. In the West QR codes are the opposite of the best.

7. Meal delivery is a breeze
 
 Another amazing thing China is great at is meal delivery.When you first arrive you’ll see guys in colorful uniforms on scotters. Theyare not actual angels but they are truly considered one. They work for a largefast meal delivery service that feeds China. Any day and time you just use their app and click the button and they can deliver you food.
