Learn for Fun

Summer vacation!
Take a rest and learn some interesting but traditional Shanghai culture with our Locals.
Vacation belongs to both adults and children.
 Chinese knot
Chinese knot has evolved thousands of weaves since ancient times. Jie(Knot) is a homophone for “Ji” in Chinese. “Ji” has various meaning, including luck, longevity, happy, fortune, safety, etc.

Three common Chinese knot are as follows:
    1. Fangsheng Knot-Safety
  2. Shuangdie Knot-Best wishes for love

  3. Tuanjin Knot-Bright future
Calligraphy
Calligraphy is one of the most important part of Chinese culture. The flexibility of the brush as well as the richness of Chinese ink painting forms meaningful black-and-white art on the rice paper.
A calligrapher can reflect his/her feeling, self-cultivate and show personality through his/her works. It seems quite simple like everyone can participate if only he/she can write Chinese characters, but it’s not. Calligraphy, is a creation of art, it's mysterious and difficult.
How to learn from the very beginning?
  1. How to grasp
It's important to learn to grasp the writing brush straight, avoiding leaning. Then learn the basic way of writing before writing a whole character.
  2. Various ways to write the same character
If you open “Word “document and check typeface toolbar, you will find different forms for the same character. Actually, these are only ‘the tip of the iceberg’.
3. How to practice
If you want to write well, it is necessary to practice with a copbook. Copybooks can be bought from a bookstore or online shop.
