Local in Hong Kong Experience!

This review is written by one of our Locals. She just guided Rob around Hong Kong for one day.

Rob was my first client. When picking him up at the hotel, I knew we would have an interesting trip.
I bought him an Octopus Card in advance which proved to be very important later that day.

Our first stop is the Central Station. Walking up long the slope from Exit J2, we saw a huge fountain and that was our destination----cable car of Victoria Peak. Seeing so long queues, Rob can’t help wondering: “We arrived early enough! “I pointed at his Octopus Card and took him to the empty entrance outside the queue. Since we had the card, we could take cable car directly without getting tickets!

Cable car is still transportation tool for people living on the Victoria Peak up to now. It has been used from 1888, and has 5 stops in all. Rob and I sat nearby the window where we could appreciate the beautiful view along. With foggy weather, quite like fairyland. On our way, Rob told me that he had a mission----his nephew was terribly sick and could not walk outside to see the world. Thus the family members promised wherever they went, they would take pictures with beautiful view and happy face for him. Suddenly, I felt a sense of mission for our trip today.

After arriving the peak, we knew what fairyland was. Actually, it was said shower according to the weather forecast. However, with the sun rose at 11am, all the view of Victoria Port leaped to our eyes. Rob said to me happily: “look! I always have good luck!”

Central is the heart of Hong Kong as well as one of the first developed district. Therefore, historical constructions and modern tall buildings along the road add radiance and beauty to each other, and forms a unique regional culture. For example, there hides a solemn European-style Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception beside an office building with glasses all over the external wall. Not to mention those time-honored food brands hidden at the back street.

We started our food trip from Mak’s Noodle, a time-honored brand of Central and was famous for its less quantity but better quality. We ordered brisket soup noodle and dumpling wonton noodle. For soup, fresh and sweet; brisket, chewy; dumpling, juicy; wonton, full of fresh shrimp and crisp crab roe. Rob liked the wonton a lot and gobbled down all.

Since Rob had to catch his flight at 4pm, we rushed to our next destination without a stop---- the Star Ferry. Rob eagerly wanted to cross Victoria Port by ferry. Before getting on the ferry, he kept asking which side could see the view of Ferries Wheel, right or left? Would the ferry turn round? Not until we got onto the ferry, I slid the movable back seat to the left side and said:” Come on and sit here.” Rob was shocked and was rapidly attracted by the incredible view. Lovely as a kid, he found the location of Victoria Peak saying: “oh! We were there before!” Then, he also sent a view with happy face picture to his nephew.

Since it was really hot in Hong Kong, Rob took a shower at the time he back to hotel. During that period, I went out to buy local snacks for him----egg puffs and pancake. The egg puff is crisp outside but soft inside. If one chooses chocolate flavor, then chocolate will flow, sooooo tasty. And for the pancake, the host buys fresh mangos every day and put them into the fridge after cutting. Cold mango with sweet and soft pancake, perfect! After Rob gobbling down all mango pancake and putting egg puffs into his backpack, the trip came to an end. However, photos of beautiful views and happy face would surely remind us of this happy journey. Meanwhile, this trip also let me review the beauty of Hong Kong----an attractive city.
